Tower Building and the art of setting smart goals

Tower Building and the art of setting smart goals

Motivation is a wonderful thing, but be sure you are walking the walk and not just talking the talk. "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader " -John Quincy Adams
The highlight of this week’s class was the way Dr Prasad explained the concept of setting smart goals setting by using the concept of tower building. Now, what does “Smart” mean?

Setting smart goals to achieve your personal best is measured in blocks with milestones of accomplishments. In order to be successful in life identify these milestones along the way, and then continue to establish future goals.

Now relating the concept of smart goals with the tower building exercise, Dr. Mandi rightly said when you set a goal it should be challenging. To achieve that goal you need to stretch every bit of your abilities and once to achieve it next time you need to set even more challenging goal & work towards achieving it. We need to set and achieve goals in a upward spiral. Dr Prasad asked us the value of the following parameters for the tower building exercise.(Goal Set, Goal Achieved, History, Potential) We got to know a very important concept that goal set should always be greater than the goal achieved and the goals should be progressive. Our performance should be such that it enhances our potential. He also asked few students about values that they would choose for each parameter for the tower building exercise and they formed a team and demonstrated the tower building exercise.
